Why am I such a tourist in my own country?

Jacket: Topshop // Top: Brandy Melville // Jeans: Bershka // Boots: Dorothy Perkins // Scarf: Topshop

A picture featuring big ben, the London eye and the UK flag, why am I such a tourist in my own country?

On a chilly Tuesday night my mum and I wandered round the banks of the River Thames watching the prettiest sunset over  London. As we walked up and down the banks aimlessly searching for a pizza restaurant, I found myself getting colder and colder in the most impractical outfit I own. Although this top is so pretty and perfect for summer, Brandy Melville definitely don't cater for warmth. I can't wait for the sunny days where I can wear this top with a lace bralet, a little skirt and my favourite Grecian sandals but for now black skinny jeans have to do...

Wearing skinny jeans is a strange one for me, they are pretty comfy but I just don't find myself feeling confident in them at all. I don't know whether I've outgrown the simplicity of them but I always find myself searching for alternative options. Part of me thinks the obsession over skinny jeans is slowly dying out, what do you think?

The pastel toned houses around Primrose Hill matched my shoes and that made me very happy

Top: Topshop // Skirt: Vintage // Scarf: Vintage // Coat: Zara // Shoes: Dr Martens // Sunglasses: Forever 21

The pastel toned houses around Primrose Hill matched my shoes and that made me very happy.

My mum and I decided on London as our next destination of adventure as it will potentially be the place I spend 3 years of my life at University. I want to study fashion and the heart of fashion in England certainly lies in London.

We headed up to Camden in the morning, I fit right in wearing my bold statement colours and cute docs and socks combo. Camden is certainly the 'Northern Quarter' of London, people seem to do what they want and wear what they want. One of my favourites places to be! My crochet top is one of my new favourite pieces as the colours are so beautiful. I'm opting for the brightest colours at the minute which is strange being someone who has previously loved the monochrome look. Any opportunity to look like a rainbow I will take.

Later on in the day we steadily walked up Primrose Hill, being overtaken by the countless runners presumably burning off some steam out of the hustle and bustle of the city. The only thing which hit me whilst being in London was the feeling of not really knowing where I am, so let me explain myself.
I live in an area pretty near to big cities, but where I live is surrounded by greenery from the pennines and so many pretty spots. Although I'm sure out of the city London holds some nice spots, being in the centre of it all could become too much. I'm so used to being surrounded by nature I'm not sure how I'd handle the change, I'm sure I'd get used to it.

The shadow of the sun

Top: Brandy Melville // Jacket: Vintage // Scarf: Vintage // Skirt: Forever 21 // Sunglasses: Topshop

There is something about the sunlight and shadows which really intrigues me, pictures seem the most raw with a natural shadow falling delicately over the shot...

Neck scarves, a trend I've seen worn so often by my favourite american bloggers yet it seems us English bloggers either take a while to catch onto these trends or simply want to make our own trends. I decided to pick one up as summer is approaching, which means festivals, which means I definitely need to start introducing my bohemian wardrobe back. In a strange kind of way this scarf screams 'cowgirl' so what better to pair it with than my beloved vintage cowboy jacket? I had to shoot whilst spinning carelessly in this fringed jacket as you've got to make the most of the tassels!

Photography is a huge passion of mine and I am all for capturing the most natural moments. The adaptation of light into shots intrigues me so much, the simple use of sunlight can be used to emphasise expression, feelings and emotion. It can hide you away into the shadows or place you right into the spotlight. When you really think about it, it is a strange thing. Just before the sun sets when it begins to simmer out, take the opportunity to capture the transition. The light and the dark, the shadow of the sun...

Well that was March...

Snapping pictures on my phone or 35mm is something I do all the time, so I thought I'd share some of my little moments...

March, it's been a month for so much good and I'm sad to see it go.

So what did I do?

I danced around madly out in the snow, trying to run with Bonnie whilst she got buried under the white sheet surrounding. I danced around madly at the various gigs of this month, with Sundara Karma proving to be the BEST gig I've been to as I got so lost in the music and the crowd yet The Neighbourhood was also a wonderful time. And I danced around madly in my shed with my best pals, Olivia and Ell as we got too excited for Leeds festival and summer.

These snaps are from gigs, aftermath of gigs, birthdays and pretty much just the best times. This month I learnt that Wagamama's is a place of beautiful food, revision can be fun and that I must be a pretty good person to have put up with Staggy for 13 years of my life!

To me, capturing moments is something which brings me so much happiness.I'm sure you all have that friend that constantly takes pictures wherever you are, well that friend is me. Flipping through my scrapbooks feels so rewarding as I know these moments will never be forgotten.
I am all for living in the moment, but capturing it perfectly is always fun.

p.s. I'm only kidding Staggy, I couldn't have done these 13 years without you!

My happy place in my happy shoes

Top: H&M // Culottes: Urban Outfitters // Shirt: Vintage // Socks: Urban Outfitters // Shoes: Topshop

My happy place in my happy shoes, everyone say hello to Lucy's shed!

A space of happiness, creativity and relaxation, the perfect summary of what I hope my shed is. If you've followed me for over a year, you'll be familiar with my project last year of rejuvenating the shed. One day in 2015, I had the most bizarre thought of turning the shed into my little sanctuary and a few weeks later it all came together...

Who would have ever have thought that a 16 year old Lucy would purchase some trainers with silver reflective stars on them? Well...the answer to that is probably everyone as you all know my child-like influence is growing on me. May be it's me rebelling to conform to 'grown up' stereotypes? Honestly, I think I just like glitter too much. A white tee, black pants paired with glittery socks and star-print trainers, just the usual normal outfits for Lucy Jane...

The second year of 'Lucy's shed' was highly anticipated by me, I can't put into words how content being in my shed makes me feel. The cold rain from outside can knock onto the doors and windows, yet I'm tucked up inside feeling warm, fuzzy and so happy. My shed is certainly my happy place for a long list of reasons, what I would like to know is where if your happy place?

'You know, your eyes and hair are exactly the same colour!'

Shirt: Vintage // Bodysuit: Forever 21 // Pants: Topshop // Belt: Mango // Shoes: Mango // Necklace: Forever 21

London town, a place so widely known yet considering it's the capital of the country I live in, I've only been a few times. The constant hustle and bustle is something you either love or hate, but I think I've learnt to love it...

Ell and I went down to London on the early train from Manchester, our intentions being to shop, explore and visit the 100 years of Vogue exhibition. We ended up wandering round so many different parts of London which did confuse me as I never realised everything was so near to each other, the tube is very deceiving! The sun was shining brightly all day making the perfect opportunity for a sit down in Regents park along with my first ice cream of 2016.
'You know, your eyes and hair are exactly the same colour!' - the ice cream lady
It was such a random thing to say but I found it quite complimentary, I mean when you think about it is there a lot of people with matching hair and eyes?

As for the exhibition, it was so interesting! Seeing rooms and rooms of fashion photography gave me so much inspiration for my own work. There were so many different variations to the styles of photographers that it made me so excited for the endless possibilities I can explore...
As I left I said to myself 'In another 100 years, they'll do an exhibition and my work will be showcased'
Well I suppose if nobodies laughing are your dreams really big enough?

London is a town filled with so much potential and I think that's what I like about it. Although commuters in London occasionally come across as quite ignorant, I think it's down to the focus they have in life. Life changes all the time, but I think having a focus makes change for the best.
I do love the buzz of the city and I will be back soon...
